Spicy Maple BBQ Cauliflower Wings

You guyssssssssss.

I’ve spent years and years looking at all those crazy people on the interwebz saying that cauliflower wings were this magically amazing thing you totally needed to put in your life in disbelief.

And I thought they were insane. Cauliflower? Flavoured like wings? Mmmm hello, what kinda crack are you on?

Turns out I was the silly-billy one, me and my deep-rooted hatred towards all the things cauliflower-related, until I try them and discover that, oh well, cauliflower sauce is actually delicious. And so are cauliflower nuggets. And the all-mighty cauliflower wings. Boy, was I wrong… But can you blame me, when actual boiled cauliflower smells like satan toots. Can you???? ???

Anyway, back to this week’s very awesome discovery™. Them wings are fineeeeeeeeeeee. They’re tender, juicy, flavoured with the goodness that BBQ sauce is, with a hint of sweet maple and the punch that hot sauce packs. Cauliflower florets might not be the stuff that your wildest food dreams are made of, but I’m here to tell you that they’re bangin’.

Real bangin’.

If you’re not a fan of BBQ sauce:

a) How could u. I’ve literally only met a person who didn’t like BBQ sauce and turns out homeboi wasn’t right in the head. Awful taste in condiments and awful taste in women too. Case in point: he dumped me.

b) You can use any other sauce you fancy. I’ve heard buffalo sauce is good but I have never tried it so who knows, who knows. Also, it’s very possible that I’m totally judging you because how on Earth can you disLIKE BBQ SAUCE??? ARE U OKAY ?????????? ?

c) Seriously.

In the very unlikely event that I haven’t convinced you to give these nuggets of heaven a go yet, let me tell you that they’re ridiculously easy to make. Cut, whisk, dip, bake, flip, bake and enjoy. BAM! A priority ticket to sweet BBQ heaven. That’s like… my dream destination.

If you want to join me in my adventure to eat all the spicy maple covered things, you’ll be more than welcome. Here’s a recipe which will (hopefully) make you love me to the moon and back.

Spicy Maple BBQ Cauliflower Wings

Spicy Maple BBQ Cauliflower Wings

  • 1 medium sized cauliflower
  • 110 grams cashew milk
  • 120 grams water
  • 140 grams breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. spicy paprika
  • 1 + 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • a pinch of ground black pepper
  • 200 grams BBQ sauce
  • 15 grams hot sauce
  • 20 grams maple syrup

  1. Preheat oven to 400F (200ºC)
  2. In a bowl, whisk together spices, salt, breadcrumbs, milk and water.
  3. Cut cauliflower into florets and dip them into this batter.
  4. Bake florets for 20 minutes, flipping them after the 10 minute mark so they don't burn.
  5. Once the 20 minutes have passed, cover them in the mixture of the BBQ sauce, hot sauce and maple syrup and bake them for 15 minutes or until crispy. Enjoy!
