Some food items are meant to be together.
In my mouth, preferably.
I’m talking some good combos here:
Chocolate + Peanut Butter (aka the king of all food combos, don’t deny it)
Lemon + Raspberry
Honey + Figs (holla!)
Honey + Salt + Peanut Butter
Apples + Turkey
Olive oil + Serrano Ham
And then there’s this whole Turkey + Apple + Roasted Red Peppers + Blue Cheese + Serrano Ham Chips + Havarti + Spinach combo – which, needless to say it, is mindblowing. Plus it is probably the reason why I have such huge expectations when it comes to sandwiches hey.
Did you read the Serrano Ham Chips part?? Oh gosh – let me tell you how badly you need to try those – they’ll be the only thing you’ll want to snack on from now on. Like, they are like Potato Chips: crispy, salty and quite addictive… but obviously 100 times better since we’re not talking boring potatoes here, but yummy serrano ham. Thanks God I cooked a lot of those, because it’s not as if a big amount of them made it to the actual burgers.
Don’t blame me – I’m sure you would have done the same oh well.
I’m going to tell you all a little secret. Thing is, every time I eat these (which alas, doesn’t happen as often as I’d like aka everyday), I go bun-free and have them salad bowl style. It’s not that I don’t like bread – like, you know it’s pretty much my favorite thing ever. Especially if “bread” means “donuts”.
But I’m weird like that and I think that it’s a waste of bread to use it in burgers… I prefer to eat the “filling” alone and then the bread.
That’s the way I roll.

And by the way, the reason I was telling you about my “no bread + filling” rule, is that I wanted to let you know that if you can’t have bread, you can totally make all the fillings and toss them in a bowl of baby spinach (or your favorite greens, actually)… it’ll be awesome anyway.
- 750 grams extra lean ground turkey
- 3-4 cloves garlic
- 1 small apple grated (200 grams)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 + 1/2 tsp. salt
- black pepper to taste
- 3 onions
- 1 tbsp. brown sugar
- a pinch of salt
- 3 roasted red peppers
- 50 grams blue cheese
- 1 cup baby spinach
- 100 grams serrano ham
- 50 grams light havarti cheese
- Heat a bit of olive oil in a pan and when it's hot add the julienned onions and sugar and cook on low-medium while you make the rest of the burgers.
- Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and mix with your hands until you can form a ball.
- Make 10 patties or so out of the ball. Make sure they're rather flat, as they cook better that way without needing to use lots of oil.
- Heat some olive oil in a pan and when it's hot, fry the patties until cooked.
- Cut serrano ham slices into smaller pieces.
- Heat a pan and when it's super hot, add pieces of ham and toast until crispy.
- Toast burgers buns and add cheeses, caramelised onions, roasted red peppers, a pattie, serrano ham chips and fresh spinach.
- If you're going the salad bowl route, toss all of the ingredients in a bowl with mixed greens,
