Date Sweetened Nutella

No amount of nutella jars could get me trough these exhausting days I’m living lately. I’m having problems with the blog, and you, my bloggy friends can imagine how much of a headache inducing problem that is. As if I wasn’t stressed enough with finals and stuff, now I cannot log into my blog, the page won’t even load!

It is making me want to cry. Like, I live glued to the date nutella jar because, oh well, it makes life better.

I’m glad I’ve finally found a version which is 100% healthy, and has half of the fat and calories (wi-nner). Because I really love Nutella, but Nutella doesn’t love me. Well, sugar in general hates me and my skin. Too much of the stuff and you bet  I’ll end up looking as one of those orcs in The Lord of the Rigs… or possibly even uglier, I think. You don’t want to see what sugar does to this face.



But I adore the sweet stuff, and there’s no way I’m going to live without it, I’m sorry! So it makes me want to jump and dance akwardly with joy that I was finally able to come up with a version which tastes more than decent and it’s easy to spread in my bread. Seriously, waht’s up with all those all-natural nut butters that look like a darn rock and wouldn’t let me spread them on my toast?? I hate the grainy stuff. Like, you cannot imagine how many jars of  supposed-to-be-nutella-but-it-actually-tastes-like-mud substance that I had to deal with until I found this recipe. Needless to say, that all of those ended up in the trash can… the place where they really belong to, if you ask me.

But not this one, guys. I never thought I’d say this, but I like this version better than storebought Nutella… And I like commercial Nutella A LOT. It is probably my favorite junk food ever, and that’s an understatement, I really really really love it.



Though this one is so fudgy and chocolate that it’s hard not to fall in love with it at the first spoonful. Because you’ll want to eat with by the spoonful, trust me. And you’ll want to spread it on everything you have in sight. Bread? Yup. Apples? Totally. Porridge? Sign me up. Pancakes? Bring it on!  It tastes so darn nice that you’ll likely want to smear it in your pillow so you have sweet nutella-filled dreams when you go to bed.

Ok, maybe not. Who wants to clean that mess anyway?


Date Sweetened Nutella: this heavenly spread has 3 times fewer calories than storebought, and it's vegan and paleo too!


But you’ll love it I’m sure. Let me tell you that my health-food hater brothers loved this spread so much that they asked to have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner today. No wonder why the jars doesn’t last more than 24 hours at home (and we’re asleep for 8 of them!)… So so so good I tell you.

Not only does it taste wonderful, but it also makes you feel super full of energy! And it makes you happier and less stressed and stuff. Because is there anything than Nutella can’t improve?



I need to go out and buy some more dates, because we’ve run out of nutella again (and I made the last batch last night, which kind of nutella devouring-monsters are we?) and I’m going to need it like crazy due to the blog problems and homework and stuff!

Hand me a spoon and a jar and I’ll be happy again. At least, for as long as there’s nutella inside of  it. When it’s over, I’ll go back to my dark corner and cry because the blog isn’t working, my server won’t fix the problem and I’ve got loads of homework to do and lots of exams to take.

Bring on the nutella.

I think I’m gonna need it.



300 grams pitted dates

100 grams roasted hazelnuts

120 ml. hazelnut milk (skim milk and almond work too!)

4 tbsp. cocoa powder

vanilla extract




Soak dates in water for 10 minutes.

Add them to a food processor and pulse until they form a paste.

Add hazelnuts and pulse until ground.

Add cocoa, vanilla and salt and pulse unitl combined.

Add milk and process for 5 minutes more until nutella is smooth.



Each tablespoon has around 39kcal (all of them healthy kcals!) while storebought Nutella has 100kcal per tbsp., crazy right??


Now tell me guys, because I really need to know it. Have you had any problem trying to access to my blog or is it just happening to Spanih readers (including me)?

    I absolutely love nutella and it’s hard for me not to eat it by the spoonful sometimes too. I just got a bag of dates and have been wanting to try healthy Nutella – am trying this this afternoon! Looks incredible! Quick question – is it grainier than normal Nutella? Have you tried adding eggs and cooking it? Thanks!

      It does! I think that the problem has something to do with a local internet provider that we have in Spain, so just Spanish readers are affected (including me sigh). I’ll contact them later today!

      It is grainier than storebought, but the texture is much better than any other healthy nutella versions that I’ve ever tried. The milk and dates make it easier to blend!

      Nope, I haven’t tried adding eggs, but that might worl because it could resemble custard or something… Let me know if you try it, and thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Yum! I’ve made a version very similar to this before and can report it was very good ๐Ÿ™‚ And I used the rest of it (the small amount I had leftover, that is) to make healthy nutella cookies!

    I’ve wanted to try making nutella at home for a long time now – I love that this version uses dates for sweetener! I’ve been playing around with dates a lot more in my kitchen and I have to say that I love them! Happy Monday Consuelo! I hope you get all the bad blog stuff sorted out soon!

    It really is very annoying when the internet connection messes with the blog! It’s so difficult to upload images or make any changes ! AAAAh!!! I hope the issue gets sorted! I am in LOVE with this date sweetened nutella Consuelo!!!! I eat Nutella like I eat my breakfast, lunch and dinner combined and it has bloated me up like crazy! But I am sooooo excited to make this healthy version because I won’t have to worry about my ever expanding waistline! ๐Ÿ˜€ Plus, I’m pretty sure when I make this today, I’m not gonna have the patience to run and get a spoon and that is why I am going to dunk my fingers in!!!!
